On ne peut évoquer le parcours de Donato Rotunno sans évoquer préalablement celui de ses parents, qui est indissociable d’un pan de l’histoire de la Péninsule et du Luxembourg tout à la fois. Ce constat a valeur générale, mais plus encore lorsque l’on a consacré un documentaire à cet héritage transnational, dans Terra Mia Terra Nostra (2012). « Je leur dois tout, si ce n’est une grande partie de ma vie, et de la construction de ma personnalité et de la suite aussi… », confie d’emblée le directeur général de Tarantula depuis le siège de la société luxembourgeoise qu’il a fondée en 1995. Derrière lui, en témoignage de cet attachement, on distingue quelques photos de famille accrochées au mur de son bureau, non loin de l’affiche encadrée de Baby(a)lone (2015), film dont il est le réalisateur et qui a été sélectionné l’année suivante à la 88ème cérémonie des Oscars pour représenter le Luxembourg.
